Development of Smart Surveillance System using Cloud for Security Application

摘要
Advancements in technology have increased the quality and performance in surveillance systems, yet the current security systems lack full coverage monitoring which is expensive as the customer needs to spend a great deal on configuration, installation and maintenance etc. This article proposes the development of a surveillance system that comprises of using Raspberry Pi (RPi) along with cloud computing services to monitor the surrounding area by providing a wide coverage range through Pan-Tilt rotation of the camera. The proposed surveillance system uses Amazon Echo Dot for the voice-activated command that triggers RPi camera mounted on a panel driven by servo motors, captures real-time video and performs facial recognition of persons inside the monitoring area which further controls the door lock via the voice commands given by the user. It uploads the data and updates the status to Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud via AWS services, where it can be accessed through the internet at any time and anywhere. The system is cost-effective in reducing human work, energy, time, and cognitive mistakes. Not only is this sort of system important for safety purposes in households, offices, etc., but also plays a very significant role for the physically challenged people who cannot move properly. The proposed design of the cloud based surveillance system has been successfully deployed and tested that can be used as personal voice assistant-based Security Automation System to make the user's life easier.
