摘要
Foundation conditions under the existing Naga Hammadi Barrage, built between 1927 and 1930, impose difficulties in maintaining the design headpond level, as the structure is founded on easily erodible, uniform sand, A Feasibility Study for a new barrage 3,500 m downstream of the existing structure included several extensive site investigation campaigns. This publication discusses the geotechnical conditions encountered, focussing on the determination of anisotropic permeability and highlighting the importance of the large scale pumping tests performed for the design of the new barrage foundation.
