Effect of crop rotation with annual winter pastures on yield of wheat

The effects of grain production systems with annual winter pastures on yield and root diseases control of wheat were assessed during six years at the CEPAGRO-Centro de Extensao e Pesquisa Agronomica at the School of Agronomy, Passe Fundo University, in Passe Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Four grain production systems with annual winter pastures were evaluated: system I (wheat/soybean, black oats/soybean, and black oats/soybean); system II (wheat/soybean and black oats + common vetch/corn); system III (wheat/soybean, black oats + common vetch/soybean, and black oats + common vetch/corn); and system IV (wheat/soybean, white oats/soybean, and white oats/soybean). Crops were grown under no-tillage during winter and summer. A randomized block design with three replications was used. No significant differences were found for intensity of wheat root diseases between system means. System I showed higher wheat yields, as compared to the remaining systems.
