摘要
Optical spectroscopy and topography techniques were used to study the photoinduced insulator-metal transition in the "colossal magnetoresistance'' compound Pr0.7Ca0.3MnO3. The transition is shown to generate a well-localized conducting path while the bulk of the sample remains insulating. A change of reflectivity with a characteristic spectral dependence allows for its visualization. A two-stage mechanism is proposed for the local phase transition. Switching experiments with two competing paths are discussed. (C) 1999 American Institute of Physics. [S0021-8979(99)25808-2].
