Mold filling and defects of Ti-6Al-4V alloy during centrifugal casting

摘要
The present investigation combined with the experimental and numerical method mainly focuses on the effects of centrifugal force on mold filling of Ti-6Al-4V alloy for wedge and stepped castings, and it also analyzes the influence of mold rotating rates on defects of the alloy. The results show that, the melt fills the furthest of horizontal runner immediately while it arrives at the bottom of sprue under a centrifugal force, and then completes the reverse filling. It also found that the mold-filling time is shorter in centrifugal force than in gravity, and the former has a better filling behavior. The numerical simulation indicates that shrinkages in stepped castings decrease exponentially with the increasing of mold-rotating rate from 0 rpm to 510 rpm, which has the similar changing trend with the previous experimental research.
