This report describes the clinical and pathological findings of a case of intra-abdominal malignant fibrous histiocytoma in a 13 year old mongrel dog attended at the Veterinary Hospital of Federal University of Minas Gerais. The dog had a history of inappetence, vomit and difficulty to walk. On clinical examination, the dog exhibited mild dehydration and a firm palpable mass in abdomen. Based on clinical findings it was suspected to be a neoplasia and the dog was euthanized. On necropsy, a tumor with approximately 20 centimeters in diameter and 1.2 kilogram was observed in abdominal cavity. The tumor was rounded, with irregular surface, and was adhered to duodenum, pancreas, stomach, liver and kidneys. The de cutting surface was reddish with hemorrhagic spots, friable in central part and firm in outer region. Histologically, there were extensive areas of necrosis and hemorrhage, The neoplastic tissue was pleomorphic and composed by rounded histiocytic cells and fibroblasts. There also were numerous multinucleate giant cells. Based on histopathological findings, intra-abdominal malignant fibrous histiocytoma was diagnosed.
