Towards a systematic approach in the learning of timber structural design

This paper explains the conceptual process which guide the development of a research in the field of timber structural design, on the basis of the application of systemic thinking to the study of European examples of timber structures. The first outcome of the research has been a handbook on this specific topic. Future activities like an expert system enlarging the results of the handbook, and analogous works regarding structural joints or historical timber structures are presented.
