Examples of intervention in ancient constructions

The design for restoration and retrofitting of historic masonry buildings is a difficult task for architects and engineers because a preliminary deep knowledge of the state of damage is necessary for a good choice of the intervention techniques. Furthermore the numerous typologies of buildings, walls and other structural elements, masonries and masonry materials require in many cases peculiar techniques or adaptation of traditional techniques to the specificity of the object. In many cases similar techniques can be chosen for similar cases of intervention. The authors present three types of case histories: the bell towers, the castles and, some masonry dwellings belonging to historic centres.
