摘要
English for Specific purposes (ESP) is introduced to meet learners' need. It is emerged due to the awareness that English for general purposes did not meet the learners' expectation. According to Hutchinson & Waters (1987), there are three main reasons for the emergence of ESP. They are the demands of brave new world, arevolution in linguistics and a new focus on learner. The present study is an attempt to draw the attention of linguistics towards new emerging branches of ESP. With the development of science and technology, the number of new businesses, occupations, and professions came into existence. This leads the demand of English learners as well as linguistics to develop ESP domain. There are many disciplines of ESP which remain untouched or less practised and require more attention, for instance,English for Artificial Intelligence, English For Aeronautics, English for Digital media, English for Politics, etc. These are the most demanding fields of ESP in present time and its numbers will be more in future. This shows the great scope of ESP for linguistics. According to Crystal (2000), Nunan (2001), and British Council (2013), the spread of English provided unlimited access to the Modern world of science, information and communications technology, money, power and many fields(Rintaningrum, 2015). This will add more opportunities in ESP field. Though ESP has become the important branch of ELT (English Language Teaching) but lack of teaching materials, teachers' competency, inappropriate textbook content, students' ability, students' needs, the design of the course, teaching pedagogy are various obstacles in the journey of ESP.
