Taxation and social welfare under spatial price discrimination

This paper analyses the social welfare effects of taxation in a spatial price discrimination model with sequential entry. If we consider an oligopoly, the effect of direct taxation on social welfare is ambiguous, while indirect taxation does not affect social welfare. When the market, without taxes, is monopolized, the introduction of taxes does not have a positive effect from a social welfare point of view.
