Urbanization and Food Crisis in China

This paper provides an economic analytical framework based on the review of developed countries' historical experience and the comparison in the statistic data of China's food supply and demand. It can be concluded that a healthy urbanization process is the key to China's food security problem rather than a hinder. As to the existing hidden danger in food security, the author considers that it is caused by two factors: the uneven development and the unreasonable planning force in urbanization. Thus, two countermeasures are provided: making a reform in household registration system, and making a construction of planning system with legal position.
