To improve the quality of graduation thesis for higher vocational students in civil engineering major, the orientation and proposal of the thesis is discussed. The reasons for common problems existed in graduation thesis writing among higher vocational students are first analyzed. Then some suggestions for improvement are given. First, graduation thesis should be practically oriented instead of academically oriented according to the aim of higher vocational training. Second, to enhance the combination of paper writing and practical problem solving, subject and topic of the thesis should be closely related to students' major, post need and practical problems enterprises encounter, choosing the problem occurred in the practical engineering as the subject of the thesis. Practice shows that the top priority of graduation thesis for higher vocational students in civil engineering major should be given to the master of writing skills and cultivation of the creative ability.
