Boundary layer transition due to the entry of a small particle

摘要：
This article will examine how a laminar, unstable boundary layer can be disturbed by a small particle entering it. A water channel experiment was conducted which showed that the wake left by the falling sphere was capable of triggering a turbulent spot. Direct Numerical Simulations were carried out which modelled the falling sphere wake as a Hill's spherical vortex. The vortex caused transition in the boundary layer under certain conditions.
