The one-dimensional nonstationary problem is treated of interaction between the magnetic field of an MHD channel and an inhomogeneous gas-plasma flow which carries nonequilibrium current layers of recombining plasma. A universal mathematical model of inhomogeneous plasma is developed for analysis, which enables one to simultaneously investigate the glow discharge and nonequilibrium are modes. The numerical solution reveals the effect of formation of a stable plasma layer with "frozen" ionization, referred to as the P-layer effect. It is demonstrated that the Mi-ID process with four or five simultaneously existing P-layers enables one to effectively convert the thermal energy of inert gas flow.
