Detection of defects in a metal plate using Lamb waves and piezoelectric sensors

摘要
This paper describes an approach to health monitoring based on novelty detection. After training a neural network to recognise normal condition on a metal plate, it is asked to diagnose the presence of a localised defect. The data are from Lamb wave measurements. For the purposes of demonstrating the fault detection, conventional ultrasonic transducers are used. The alternative prospect of using piezoceramics or piezoelectric films is investigated.
