Life expectancy in the Merida State, Venezuela, in times of humanitarian crisis

This research analyzes the recent evolution of life expectancy from the state of Merida, Venezuela, in a context of reality-country of humanitarian crisis. For this, mortality tables of age and sex were constructed using the Epidami Program for Tabulated Data Epidemiological Analysis 4.0. The results obtained reveal that the Merida population in recent years has lost around 3 years of life expectancy at birth and, from the point of view of sex, on average, the life expectancy of men decreased 2.0 years, while the decline in women was 3.5. Regarding age, the indicator decreased in all age groups and, from the crossing of age and sex, the same result was obtained. It is proposed that the most important factor that could explain this decline is the complex political emergency that Venezuela has been experiencing in recent years.
