Clinical and radiologic findings in five patients with the rare tessier number nine cleft

Due to its rarity, few reports in the Literature detail the clinical and radiological aspect of Number 9 cleft. The purpose of the present study was to describe five patients with number nine cleft, discussing clinical findings, radiological aspects and surgical treatment. Between 1999 and 2003, 5 patients were diagnosed with number 9 cleft and were followed. Four patients were female and had unilateral cleft. Associated deformities were found in 4 patients. Soft tissue and skeletal deformities were not proportional. Adequate clinical and radiological investigation and correlation was mandatory for proper diagnosis. Orbital deformities were treated by eyelid reconstruction and lateral canthal repositioning in all cases.
