摘要
Applying the Hertz contact theory of linear elasticity and the lubrication equation of fluid dynamics, the effects of the inertial force and the van der Waals force on the dynamic deformation of an elastic particle which closely adheres to a plane surface are investigated. The cause of dimple formation on the particle surface is analyzed. Moreover, for different values of the particle inertia, critical values of the van der Waals force which lead the particle to contact the plane surface are also estimated.
