Superconductivity in ternary iron silicide YFe2-δSi2 single crystal

We report a discovery of superconductivity in ternary iron silicide YFe2-delta Si2 single crystal prepared by the Czochralski pulling method. The YFe2-delta Si2 has the ThCr2Si2-type structure with the lattice parameters (a = 0.3915 nm and c = 0.9936 nm) and the stoichiometry of Y:Fe:Si = 1:1.8:2. The in-field susceptibility showed a clear decrease at temperatures below 3 K. The zero resistivity of YFe2-delta Si2 was also confirmed at temperatures below 3 K. No remarkable anomaly in the specific heat was observed at 3 K, suggesting the non-bulk superconductor. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
