摘要
Friction stir welding is a relatively new solid-state joining process employed primarily for aluminum alloys. The FSW process can also be applied to the welding of a variety of other materials, including magnesium alloys, titanium alloys, stainless steels, and metal matrix Composites (MMCs). However, little information is available regarding FSW characteristics of MMCs. In this study, trials with FSW of SiC whisker-rein forced aluminum composites were carried out on a modified milling machine. The results of FSW performed on 6061+16%SiC whisker composites are discussed in terms of weldability and weld strength.
