摘要
The paper deals with an attempt made to study the effect of land use changes on travel intensity, taking the city of Chennai, India as the case for the study. As per the study, the future land use that would be generated during the planning period (1991 - 2011) is distributed in proportion to the intensity of existing zonal land uses. A maximum limiting value on both zonal population and employment opportunities are fixed to avoid high zonal concentrations in the future. The intensity of travel for work is obtained through linear programming technique. Different land-use allocations are tried by varying the limiting values of zonal population and employment to arrive at an optimal allocation that would produce the least intensity of travel.
