Effect of coccidiostats and immunomodulators on haematology of Eimeria tenella infected broilers

Caecal coccidiosis caused by Elimeria tenella is the most pathogenic disease and is of great economic importance in modern poultry production in India. Losses are attributed to mortality, malabsorption, inefficient feed utilization and impaired growth rates in broilers, and a temporary reduction of egg production in layers. In order to device appropriate control measures against coccidiosis, there is a need of clear understanding of the basic mechanism of the pathophysiology and immunity in coccidiosis. In the present paper, effect of herbal immunomodulator on the haematological alterations in male broiler chicks infected with Eimeria tenella alone or in combination with ayurvedic and allopathic coccidiostats is discussed.
