Image coding approach based on multiscale matching pursuits operation

A new image coding technique based on the Multiscale Matching Pursuits (MMP) approach is presented. Using a predefined dictionary set, which consists of a limited amount of elements, the MMP approach can decompose/encode images on different image scales and reconstruct/decode the image by the same dictionary. The MMP approach can be used to represent different scale image texture as well as the whole image. Instead of the pixel-based image representation, the MMP method represents the image texture as an index of a dictionary and thereby can encode the image with low data volume. Based on the MMP operation, the image content can be coded in an order from global to local smd detail.
