The use of wood as an energy absorber in containers for the transportation of dangerous materials has led us to investigate the behaviour of wood under dynamic multiaxial compression. We have created a numerical model for wood which can be used in the design and validating phase of new containers by numerical modelling. In this paper, we first present the conclusions of an experimental study of wood specimens under static and dynamic compression. We then present the wood model and the results obtained by modelling the failure of a wooden container with this wood model and with a classical elastoplastic model (this is a model widely used for wood in this type of loading).
