Numerical performance prediction for an entire Kaplan turbine

摘要
The stage simulation method couples rotating and non-rotating components by modelling their steady state interactions within a single computation. Based on experience gained with hill-chart predictions using the Navier-Stokes equations for an entire Francis turbine, the method has now been applied to the prediction of the propeller curves of a complete Kaplan turbine. Calculated velocity profiles at runner outlet and absolute torque are compared to experimental results from a model test. It is shown that all Important performance features can be reproduced by the simulations. The sources of quantitative discrepancies in the propeller curves are discussed.
