Non-contact ultrasonic inspection of railroad tracks

摘要
This paper presents two non-contact ultrasonic systems that show good potential for in-service inspection of railroad tracks. The first system employs laser generation and detection of ultrasonic waves in a fiberized manner. The second system uses the same ultrasound laser generation as the first one, with a capacitive gas(air)-coupled transducer for detection. The enhanced positioning flexibility and remoteness fi om the test piece afforded by both of these systems substantially broaden the range of applicability of ultrasonic testing for rail inspection.
