Visualization and PIV measurements of high-speed flows and other phenomena with novel ultra-high-speed CCD camera

An ultra-high-speed camera system operating at up to 1 MHz is presented using a diode-pumped solid state laser at 532 nm operating between 1 and 100 kHz. Images are taken with a high-resolution highspeed CCD-camera capable of recording 4 or 16 images up to 1280 x 1024 pixel at a frame-rate of up to 1 MHz. The system can be used for various high-speed visualization purposes. A turbulent air flow at velocities of a few m/s was recorded and PIV vector fields computed. From consecutive vector fields the local acceleration field was derived. Gasoline direct injection sprays were recorded at up to 80 kHz frame rate.
