Teacher production in colleges of education with implications for primary schools

The daunting slate of teacher education in. Nigeria has called. for urgent. examinations of what happens at the teacher production sectors. This study examined teacher production in Colleges of Education. Analysis of three years students enrollment in Colleges of Education show that the nation is likely to have sufficient qualified teachers for our primary schools in the near future if all the trained teachers will remain on the job and that some geo-political zones will have glut while others will have dearth of qualified teachers. The results also indicate that female participation is likely to be higher than that of males, and science related disciplines will continue to stiffer lack of teachers if no urgent positive steps are taken.
