A field experiment conducted during 1991-93 in a natural grassland of Kangra Valley revealed that introduction of improved grass species through pitting technique resulted in higher dry forage yield (68.2 q/ha) than spraying (67.1 q/ha) and scraping (57.6 q/ha) techniques. Setaria anceps var. 'PSS 1' out-yielded both the varieties of guinea grass ('PGG 9' and 'PGG 19') by a significant margin. 'PSS 1' had better persistence than guinea grass varieties. introduction of improved grass species recorded 117.0 green and 80.1% higher city forage yields over no introduction.
