An effective automatic license plate recognition system

摘要
This paper presents an effective automatic license plate recognition system and emphasizes the software part of this system. A max character texture detection method is proposed to extract three candidates of license plate region from car image. After correcting plate distortion by calculating distortion angular, characters are segmented using vertical projection. A 4-layers BP neural network is used to recognize character. For the results of character recognition, syntax checking is det,eloped to improve recognition ratio. And in each part of process feedback is widely used to improve the system recognition ratio. The results of the experiments in real-life test show the recognition ratio is 86.9% and the processing time of each image is less than 0.2s.
