Achieving security in wireless mesh networks (WMNs) is much more challenging than in traditional wired networks, because they have a much more open communication environment and are subjected to a much wider range of attacks. In this paper, we consider the problem of intrusion-tolerance and built-in robustness in secure communication for WMNs. Some key mechanisms in building a secure and intrusion tolerant communication platform for WMNs are presented, include: a secure and misbehavior resilient multipath routing Scheme, which provides secure, intrusion tolerant, and scalable routing for WMNs; a secure, efficient, and intrusion tolerant pairwise key establishment scheme which uses a properly selected set of node-disjoint paths to securely negotiate symmetric keys between WMN nodes; A secure and dependable message transmission mechanism, which is highly secure against node captures in WMNs.
