摘要
Vigorous electro-polishing of tooth faces can improve the pitting durability of medium carbon steel gearing under sever load and/or poor lubrication conditions. This is attributed to the effect of micro-pools and phosphoric compounds electrolytically produced on the steel surfaces. This paper investigated the effect of such vigorous electrolytic polishing on the medium carbon steel surfaces with special attention to asperity interaction during run-in process in the early stage of operation, using a two-roller testing machine. The results are compared with those of circumferentially ground surfaces. The following facts are concluded. The asperity interaction is quickly reduced and oil film creation is improved by the electro-polishing, especially under severe loading.
