Data Management Research at NEC Labs

The NEC Laboratories of America is presently aimed towards data management in the cloud. Its current research projects are built around a large platform, CloudDB, which is envisioned as a comprehensive data management platform in the cloud. The CloudDB platform include some guiding principals in its design that include the profit money and the customer Service Level Agreements (SLA) and a system maintaining the declarative nature of data processing. The vision is to introduce transaction description language (TDL) to describe various restrictions on ACID properties in the form of transaction classes. The Maestro project aims at developing a family of technologies to manage very large heterogeneous database clusters that are deployed in cloud service delivery infrastructures. The admission control has been proposed to resolve the system overloading problem. In the COSMOS project, NEC is developing a multitenant, SLA-aware, cloud-based PaaS on top of CloudDB to provide the necessary support for seamless mobility.
