Raman scattering study of methonium bromides as spacer-related compounds of dimeric surfactants and evidence for a conformational change in aqueous solution

The Raman spectra for tetra-, hexa-, octa- and deca-methonium bromides in the solid state and in aqueous solution have been examined. The results show that a fully extended conformation, similar to that which exists in the solid state, is stabilized in aqueous solution, especially in more concentrated solutions.
