Truncated and Suspended Microstrip Patch Antennas Over an EBG Ground Plane

摘要
An extensive investigation has been performed with the objective of reducing the weight and profile of an EBG-backed microstrip antenna. Resulting from this study, two EBG-backed microstrip patch antennas, which are named "suspended" and "truncated," are introduced in this paper. Simulations are conducted to show that more than 70% reduction in weight and profile are achieved, while keeping the impressive antenna performance due to the presence of the EBG structure.
