Technology transfer in the livestock industries - with particular reference to livestock improvement schemes

Examples are given of livestock information technologies which vary in adoption rate from 1% to 99.5% in the Australian market. Successful technologies show clear economic benefits to end users, are delivered as part of an alliance with existing service providers and require access to a good infrastructure for service delivery. Extension of these principles to technology transfer in Thailand and the Philippines is given. For genetic evaluation technologies there is considerable scope for achieving economies of scale by using parameter-driven software capable of handling the requirements of a number of species.
