Low back pain is one of the most common pain disorders. A structural lesion can only be found in about 15% of all cases. The majority of patients suffers from non-specific low back pain. Especially chronic low back pain is a considerable economical cost factor due to cost of treatment, loss of productivity and early retirement. The analysis of risk factors for the chronification of low back pain shows that psychosocial factors and behavioral patterns are of major importance. Patients with chronic unspecific low back pain should be treated in an interdisciplinary setting considering the problem in its entirety.
