Modernization of pusher-type furnaces in order to meet the requirements of environmental protection

By using the achievements of basic research in fields of environmental protection and energy utilizing new solutions have been found for the modernization of reheating furnaces of rolling mills in the last decade, [1,2,3,4]. The aim of our researches has been to find such solutions, wich can be accomplished by low cost, without significant rebuilding of existing pusher type furnaces. The basic- and semi plant researches were done at the Departement of Combustion Technology of University Miskolc in experimental furnace with capacity of 100 MJ, what made the measurement of noise and NO emission possible. The results were tried out at pusher type furnaces of capacity of 170 t/h operating in the Hot Rolling Mill of DUNAFERR Co. In our paper the earlier noise and NO-emission data, the methode of rebulding of flat flame burners, the decreasing of NO emission from the lower combustion chambers by regulating the air factor and gas-air mixing conditions are described.
