Modeling of landscape ecology for use in remote sensing applications

This paper presents a view on the role that fractal analysis can play in the interpretation of remotely sensed imagery. Of particular interest to this endeavor is the concept of fractal dimensionality. The paper introduces an effort underway at the University of Texas at El Paso to create the Pan American Center for Earth and Environmental Studies which is supported by NASA and is aligned with NASA's Mission to Planet Earth. Potential application areas for using fractal dimensionality to analyze landscape ecology and processes are presented.
