Back-extraction of Ni-Cd from highly loaded organic phases.: Equilibrium modeling.

In this work the mechanism of back-extraction of an organic phase containing Cd-Ni-D2EHPA compounds is reported, A discrimination between different mechanistic models that considered the stoichiometric of the metal-extractant species previously reported in the literature was carried out. The selection of the stoichiometric equations of the BEX process was based on the comparison of experimental results to the simulated data using the minimum value of standard deviation as criterion. Finally, it was concluded that under the experimental conditions the formation of a mixed specie in the organic phase equilibrium parameter (CdX2NiX2) over bar was responsible for the back-extraction being the equilibrium parameter KEq-BEX(Ni-Cd) = 8.8e-5 (m(3)/mol).
