Guitar movements in Rio Grande do Sul eighteenth century

The aim of the present work is to investigate the presence of the guitar in the sociocultural dynamics in Rio Grande do Sul from the middle of the nineteenth century onwards, identifying the elements that led to a rich cultural exchange in the region. In particular, are analyzed the factors that contributed to the guitar's insertion in the local commerce network and also in the main theatres of the region. Based on a documentary research of nineteenth-century newspapers, the text presents previously unknown sources that offer a broader view on some guitar practices during the final decades of that century.
