JACQUES RANCIERE, LOUIS ALTHUSSER AND THE LESSONS OF THE REVOLT

This article highlights the polemical dimension of the relationship between theory and politics raised by Jacques Ranciere after the events of May 68. By returning to the historico-political issues of the latter's adhesion to and break from Althusserism, the text shows how a series of political struggles that took place during the 1960s revealed to him the way in which the Althusserian project of restoring theoretical Marxism as a political determining factor leads to the establishment of a community of wise men that eliminates politics.
