Tissue Doppler Imaging in hypertensive patients with coronary artery disease

The purpose of this study was to identify echocardiographic markers of myocardial ischemia in hypertensive patients. Methods: We studied 77 hypertensive patients with preserved LV systolic function, divided in two groups: with coronary artery disease (CAD) (n=38), and withot CAD (n=39). All patients performed conventional, tissue Doppler and stress echocardiography. Results: There was significant diference of annular systolic (s) ( 0.07 vs 0.05; p =0.001) and diastolic velocity (e) between two groups. Close correlation was found between s velocity and values of myoardial performance index (MPI) (r = -0.319, p = 0.003) and left atrial volume (LAV) (r = -0.307, p = 0.004). Conclusion: Tissue Doppler imaging analysis appears to be valuable in CAD assessment, remarkable systolic and diastolic mitral annular velocites.
