Internet of Things (IoT) refers to uniquely identifiable objects and their virtual representations in an Internet-like structure. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) provide a backbone for implementation of IoT. IEEE 802.15.4 standard specifies how the internet stack can be implemented in Wireless Personal Area Networks so we can connect low powered devices to internet The existing Bluetooth standard which does not work on TCP/IP stack is less feasible for Wireless Personal Area Network as they are two different protocols. However 802.15.4 standard specifies how the internet stack can be implemented in Wireless Personal Area Networks so we can connect low powered devices to internet. Hence there is a need for an open sourced technology for applying 802.15.4 standard in WSN. 6LoWPAN is a new technology used in wireless sensor networks for low power transmission of packets over 802.15.4 networks. One of the major challenges faced by wireless personal area networks is its power consumption. This gives rise to a well-known problem known as "Sleeping Node" problem. Since most WPAN devices need to work without a stable power source, the power consumption has to be minimized. In this paper we propose to solve this problem using "Sleeping Node Problem" using "Hierarchical directional routing" to solve the problem hence minimizing the power consumption and also determine its efficiency and accuracy in routing and analyze with examples.
