Endoscopic laser CO2 surgery in supraglottic tumors.: Preliminary results

Endoscopic Laser CO2 surgery in the tratment of supraglottic tumors is gaining acceptance in recent years, especially in the management of the early stages. In this paper we present our experience in the treatment of 19 cases of supraglottic epidermoid carcinomas in stages I and II, using this method. After a median follow-up of 30 months, all patients are alive and with no evidence of disease. Our preliminary oncological results are similar to those obtained by open supraglottic laringectomy, with better funcional results, shorter hospitalization and minimal morbidity. The main requisite for oncological safety is highly selected patients. In our initial experience to date, the endoscopic treatment of supraglottic cancer is an efective therapy, and at present is our first choice in the treatment of early stages.
