Recurrent Status Epilepticus: a study of the risk factors in a pediatric population

We report the results of a study conducted in order to clarify the risk of recurrence and of multiple recurrences of status epilepticus in 75 children of age ranging from 1 month/ 18 years. The mean age at first appearance of SE has been 4,5 years. The risk of recurrence was increased when the age at the first episode was over 3 years, the episode lasted more than 60 minutes, there was a diagnosis of epilepsy, and the patient was in polytherapy or was farmacoresistant. 46% of the patients who had a recurrence developed at least a further episode. 84% of patients who recur do so within a year from the first episode.
