PROTECTION OF THE RIGHTS OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES IN SAUDI ARABIA'S POLICIES AND LEGAL FRAMEWORK: A CRITICAL ANALYSIS

Saudi Arabia has domesticated the united nations conventions and protocol on the rights of people with disabilities. Consequently, it enacted laws and policies to implement these charters and protocols further. The Kingdom has guidelines and a legal framework dealing with education as it concerns people with disabilities, welfare, transportation, Job, health care etc. However, having law and regulations that support people with disabilities does not amount to protecting their right. Some of these provisions are the duty of a government to its citizens' disabled persons inclusive. This research takes a critical look at the legal framework of the Kingdom and policies for protecting people with disabilities. It concludes with what is lacking or needed to achieve optimum result in implementing these laws and policies.
