OPEN ACCESS INSTITUTIONAL REPOSITORIES: scenario on ibero-american countries

The Open Access Institutional Repositories are used as a way to minimize the institutions scientific production's lack of visibility. The goal of this article is to analyze the Open Access Institutional Repositories of Ibero-American countries, which are registered in the Registry of Open Access Repositories, by means of a) the identification of the institutions that maintain repositories, b) the characterization of the collections, and c) the description of the documents presentation. The methodological procedures used are of a descriptive, exploratory, documental and quantitative, documentation file was used as a data collection tool and the data analysis was done using descriptive statistic techniques. The results showed that of 180 institutional or departmental repositories registered in ROAR in Ibero-American countries, 48,3% (87) met the established inclusion criteria It is possible to observe that 36.8% (32) have the libraries and documentation and information centers responsible for its management and 83.9% (73) use the Dspace software and have registered more than 119 types of collections. In the analisys of the presentation and preservation mechanisms, it is noted that 94.2% (82) of the repositories are indexed in PDF format, 90.8% (79) use the persistent identifier service and 47.1% (41) use Creative Commons license.
