Technology for conversion of natural gas to liquid hydrocarbons is emerging as an attractive alternative for bringing large, static gas resources to market. Exxon's AGC-21** advanced gas conversion technology utilizes new reactors and novel catalyst systems to produce high quality, highly paraffinic water-clear liquids, free of sulfur, metals, nitrogen, asphaltenes, and salt. A high capacity, fluid bed synthesis gas generation system and high productivity, cobalt-based, three-phase slurry hydrocarbon synthesis have been demonstrated in large process development units. These processes link with a flexible product upgrading technology in a three-step configuration for high capacity gas-to-liquids conversion. Protected by extensive patents, this unique, proprietary technology is being studied for a range of commercial applications.
