摘要
A career in academics does not mean isolation from practice. Most academic professionals provide a wealth of knowledge, research, and experience within the university halls and outside in the water industry field. There are many reasons water professionals may want to consider academia as a career, especially those who are interested in advanced study and extended research within the field. Research goals in academia can be long term, lasting decades, rather than short term, which is more prevalent in other sectors of the water industry. Academic careers offer external opportunities. Some academics hold presidencies in professional organizations of major water sector societies.
